There is so MUCH advice about what to eat and what not to eat. And fad diets galore – from the latest celebrity diet to complicated regimes that require all your time and, ideally, a personal chef! That is not going to work for most of us – we have busy lives and time is at a premium. The trick to eating healthily is to incorporate choices that you can make every day, without a big fuss.
And the benefits are absolutely numerous – you will have more energy, feel better, look trim and slim and your skin will glow with a radiance that only comes from great health and good nutrition! The skin is an organ, and what you put into your mouth affects skin clarity, elasticity and the appearance of fine lines and blemishes.
Try to eat Whole Foods as much as possible
Whole foods are foods that are in their ‘whole’ state, like vegetables, eggs and cuts of meat. If you can’t eat food in its whole state – make sure you check labels. When reading ingredient labels – the fewer ingredients a product has, the better! Fewer ingredients means less processing, and less chance of sneaky additives like sugar and sodium, which don’t do our bodies any favors!
Snacking is good, if you do it right! The crunchier the snack the better – but I’m not talking potato crisp crunch, I talking an apple, some celery, some snap peas or some nuts kind of crunch! Eating something every 3-4 hours keeps your metabolism high and stops you from getting super hungry so that you’ll reach for anything. Eating regularly keeps energy up so feel great all day! And if you can’t sit down to a meal, grab a crunchy snack. Try to keep your healthy snack options close so its easy to stay healthy!
Good ol’ H20
Drink as much water as you can, every day! Often we think we are hungry but we are just actually thirsty. Drinking water keeps you full in between snacks and meals, and rids the body of toxins. Drinking more water is one way to get your skin looking amazing super-quickly – you’ll see a difference in just a few days! And try to chose water over store bought beverages – they may say that they are packed with vitamins or give an ‘energy boost but that usually means sweetened water – extra sugar, extra chemical ingredients and very little nutritional value. Try swop for water, add a dash of lemon or some cucumber slices for extra taste. That way, having a store-bought beverage every now and again doesn’t matter because you mainly drink water. Herbal teas have lots of health benefits too, without any ‘bad stuff’!
Make Friends with Your Butcher
It is far better to eat cuts of meat from your butcher – processed meat has lots of extra sodium and preservatives. So, instead of having a chicken nugget, opt for chicken breast.
Get Happy in the Kitchen
If you eat at home and prepare food yourself, you know exactly what goes into it. And cooking healthy, delicious meals CAN be fun. If you get organized, you can create a weekly meal plan, and save on the shopping bills too. Try to cook batches of healthy meals and freeze some, so there is always something healthy to eat on the nights when you can’t cook.
