Beauty Step 4: Why Do You Need A Serum For Your Skin?

If you are a little confused as to why you would need a serum, you are not alone! We already have a moisturizer, right? So what does a serum do that the moisturizer doesn’t? Face serums are lightweight moisturizers that penetrate deeper to deliver active ingredients into your skin.

By leaving out many of the heavier ingredients that are found in traditional moisturizers, serums contain a much higher proportion of active ingredients.
Star Serum Concentrations

Higher concentrations of active ingredients mean that serums can give your skin a firmer, smoother texture, make pores appear smaller and increase moisture levels. Now, we’re talking! The higher ingredient concentrations, the better!

What to choose?

If you have oily skin, choose a serum with salicylic acid and/or glycolic acid. Dry complexions need formulas that incorporate hydrating proteins such as hyaluronic acid, that attract water to the skin. Aging, dull, or combination skin will benefit from serums with both vitamin C and retinoids.

If you have dark spots, a brightening serum is your best friend. So, fine lines, wrinkles and dark spots all improve with regular serum use, and that’s a very good reason to find one that you love!

Here are a few star serums to try for yourself, you’ll never want to be without them again!

SK-II Facial Treatment Essence

This is SK-II’s signature product, the much-loved and most awarded bestseller. It is also known as Miracle Water, and contains over 90% Pitera™, the miracle ingredient discovered over 30 years ago that remains essentially unchanged till today. It helps improve the appearance of 5 dimensions of beautiful, crystal clear skin in just 14 days. For clear skin, soak a cotton pad and gently smooth onto your face for 1 minute. Turn the cotton pad around and gently pat onto your face and neck for another minute. Apply every morning and night after cleansing and toning, and under your moisturizer.

HABA Pure Roots Squalane

Squalane sounds like some kind of sea creature to me, but it’s definitely something you want on your skin! It reactivates cells, stimulates collagen, sculpts and firms, and smooths fine lines and wrinkles for renewed, radiant and supple skin. HABA Pure Roots Squalane purity reaches 99.9% –  the highest in the world! It is very close to human’s sebum, safe, stable and highly effective. It has been clinically proven that a continuous use of 30 days visibly improves damaged skin and dehydration. To get these results for yourself, apply a few drops on your palms and gently massage to the face, after cleansing and moisturizing.

Clinique Moisture Surge Hydrating Supercharged Concentrate

This has always been a favourite of mine, as my skin is dry, and this does exactly what the name says – gives the skin a surge of moisture. It also has a fresh, clean fragrance that I love. It contains Liquid-Sphere Technology that combines water-binding ingredients with encapsulated antioxidants to help break the cycle of dryness and environmental stress that can lead to premature aging. Which is a fancy way of saying that it makes your skin wonderfully soft and hydrated! Apply morning and night on clean skin.
